Silver clay from Japan is like modelling clay, but made of very finely powdered silver with a woodpulp binder and water. Once you've shaped the clay, we fire it in a kiln, which burns off the binder and fuses the silver particles together into 99.9% solid silver. Next, you polish the silver and assemble your pieces into earrings and pendants, adding beads and silver jewellery findings. The price of the workshop includes 22g silver clay (enough for a pendant and a pair of earrings), all the other materials including beads and silver findings, and up to 6 hours in the atelier (3 hours before firing the clay and three hours after).

On Saturday January 11 and Sunday March 8.

This workshop starts at 09.30 when we shape the clay, dry it and get it ready for firing, which may take up to 3 hours. The kiln will run at lunchtime, then we meet again at 15.00 to polish the silver and assemble the jewellery.

  • Just yourself. We have all the materials you might need, as well as aprons, coffee, tea, cookies, music, and even a friendly dog on some occasions.
